Soul
Spider
[May 2003]
There's
a spider in my soul
A dark and deadly shadow within increasing night
It did not come uninvited
Spinning silk to snare the spirit
For the hole within my whole enticed it in.
There's
a spider in my soul
Repulsive and alluring within its midnight beauty
Venom dripping darkling rubies from delicate twin fangs
Black as death and black as sin
Gaze watching, beads of blood
Set in a face devoid of life, of passion.
There's
a spider in my soul
Perched on a selective web within the spirit's sight
Waiting sly for passing prey
(The joy of life, all energy)
To catch within the all-entang'ling trap.
There's
a spider in my soul
Digging fangs into my heart within the dying of the light
Sending poison coursing black through pulsing veins
It drags the body willingly to death
Yet the mind draws the venom drop by drop
In the slash of flesh and the leeching of the tainted blood.
There's
a spider in my soul
An ever-hungry hunter within the gath'ring gloom
I loathe it and I love it, for its beauty and its hate
And it consumes with greedy fangs
All that's light and all that's good
That seeks to enter spirit from the void.
It consumes
It consumes
It consumes...
